A fast-growing, publicly-held company in Houston is seeking an attorney with at least 10 years of experience to serve as its Senior Commercial Contracts Counsel. This attorney will be the point person within the company for anything related to contracts and will support sales and procurement with the help of a contracts team of four. Qualified candidates will have prior in-house experience in the either software or hardware and be comfortable working independently and remotely.

Responsibilities:
- Review, draft, and negotiate various types of contracts including software licensing agreements, hardware purchase agreements, SaaS agreements, partnership agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and other commercial contracts.
- Manage and mentor a team of four contract professionals, providing guidance, training, and feedback.
- Act as the primary contact within the company for all matters related to contracts.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to contract management to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Liaise with sales, procurement, and other departments to support contract negotiation and fulfillment.
- Assist in risk management and mitigation strategies related to contractual terms and conditions.
- Keep abreast of relevant legal changes that may impact the company’s contractual obligations and rights.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the legal department to ensure coordinated legal support across the company.
- Provide training to company personnel on contract terms, negotiation strategies, and relevant legal issues.
- Collaborate with the company’s external counsel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing with the State Bar.
- At least 10 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on commercial contract law.
- Prior in-house experience with a technology company, preferably in the software or hardware sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing a variety of commercial contracts.
- Proven experience managing a team.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, intellectual property law, and data privacy laws.
- Excellent negotiation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and remotely, with a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Familiarity with contract management systems and software.
- Ability to travel occasionally, if needed, for team meetings, training, and conferences.
