A large energy company based in Houston is seeking a labor and employment attorney with at least 10 years of experience to provide advice and counsel on labor and employment legal matters, with a focus on traditional labor law issues. The role will handle a variety of matters, including collective bargaining issues, grievance handling, first chair labor arbitration hearings, and defend unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB. This attorney will also advise internal clients on a full range of employment law matters, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA issues, and investigate charges of discrimination filed with the EEOC. This position will start at a base salary well over $200K and have the opportunity for advancement within this company’s sizeable legal department.
Responsibilities:
- Handle traditional labor law matters, including collective bargaining issues and labor arbitration.
- Represent the company in first-chair labor arbitration hearings.
- Defend against unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
- Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of employment law matters.
- Advise internal clients on compliance with Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA regulations.
- Manage and address employee grievances in accordance with company policies and labor agreements.
- Work to resolve disputes through negotiation and mediation.
- Investigate charges of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
- Ensure thorough and impartial investigations are conducted.
- Stay updated on labor and employment laws and regulations.
- Monitor changes in legislation that may impact the company’s employment practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including HR and management, to provide legal support and guidance.
- Participate in the development of company policies related to labor and employment.
- Assist in resolving labor and employment-related disputes through negotiation, mediation, and litigation when necessary.
- Provide litigation support to outside counsel when representing the company in employment-related lawsuits.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in labor and employment law.
- Strong background in traditional labor law issues, including collective bargaining.
- Experience in representing employers in labor arbitration hearings.
- In-depth understanding of employment laws, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance on compliance.
- Skill in handling employee grievances and labor disputes.
- Negotiation and mediation capabilities.
- Experience conducting thorough and impartial investigations into discrimination charges.
- Familiarity with EEOC procedures.
