A large publicly-held energy company in Houston is hiring an attorney with 5+ years of experience to handle tort and commercial disputes. This attorney will manage a nationwide docket of both tort and commercial matters, both in a first-chair capacity and through outside counsel. The role will also provide legal counsel on indemnity and additional insured issues, investigations, and risk management issues. Reporting to the lead lawyer for the litigation group, this attorney should have large law firm experience and have graduated in the top third of their law school class. Base salary will be over $200K with excellent benefits and predictable hours.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a nationwide docket of tort and commercial matters for the company.
- Act as the first-chair attorney in complex litigation cases when required.
- Collaborate with and oversee outside counsel handling litigation matters.
- Develop and implement litigation strategies to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Monitor the progress of litigation cases and provide regular updates to the company.
- Provide legal advice on indemnity and additional insured issues.
- Conduct investigations into legal matters and provide risk assessments.
- Assist in the development of risk management strategies and initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Report directly to the lead lawyer for the litigation group.
- Communicate effectively with senior management regarding litigation matters.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support litigation strategies.
- Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations in the energy industry.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Texas.
- 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably in tort and commercial disputes.
- Prior experience at a large law firm.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a nationwide docket of litigation matters.
- Strong experience in first-chairing complex litigation cases.
- Familiarity with outside counsel management and strategy development.
- Knowledge of indemnity and additional insured issues.
- Proven ability to conduct legal investigations and risk assessments.
- Understanding of risk management principles in the energy industry.
- Graduated in the top third of their law school class.
